What is counselling?
Counselling is a talking therapy. In 50 or 60 minute sessions it offers you the opportunity to explore personal issues in a private setting with someone who has no other role in your life. Talking things over with a trained listener can offer a new perspective. It is a joint process that requires motivation and active involvement, helping you explore feelings, thoughts and personal experiences in order to work towards finding your own solutions.
Sometimes there isn't a specific problem but you may simply want to talk about feeling unhappy or confused. You don't have to be in crisis or have no emotional or mental strength left before you ask for help. It all remains confidential. On the rare occasion confidentiality is broken, as there are certain legal constraints, I will make every effort to discuss it with you, the client, first.
The number of sessions undertaken varies according to individual need. It can be anything from providing short term, brief focused crisis intervention to long term, open ended psychotherapy towards a journey of self-discovery.
At Cosmos Counselling in Liphook, I work with children, young people through to adults including couples - from 8 to 80+ years - facing a wide range of challenges and I am happy to discuss any problems you or your child maybe experiencing.

Should I feel I am not the right counsellor for you, or family therapy may be more helpful, I will help in finding the care and support you need elsewhere.
